When to Visit Yellowstone National Park

During this time, the park’s flora and fauna come to life after a long winter. The weather is also mild and pleasant, making it perfect for exploring the park. Accommodations in the early season are a little easier to come by and off-season pricing exists for many early season dates.

Road Access

Yellowstone’s roads are usually closed during the winter season due to heavy snowfall. However, the roads start opening in late April, and by mid-May, most of the park’s roads are open to the public. The roads are scheduled to open in stages this year. Starting on April 21st with West Entrance to Madison Junction, then Mammoth Hot Springs to Old Faithful, Norris to Canyon then on May 5th, the park estimates having the East entrance to Lake Village (Sylvan Pass), Canyon to Lake Village open. May 12th will see the South Entrance to West Thumb, West Thumb to Old Faithful (Craig Pass), West Thumb to Lake Village, Tower-Roosevelt to Tower Fall opens, and on May 26th Canyon to Tower Fall (Dunraven Pass) will open.
