Why Big Sky Ski Resort?
When NBC anchorman Chet Huntley conceptualized the Big Sky area back in 1968, no one thought it would turn into the amazing ski playground it is today. Opening the first lifts to skiers in 1973 Big Sky Ski Resort has made a known name in the ski industry. In 2005 it was announced that Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin would be joined, making Big Sky “The Biggest Skiing In America”.
Currently, Big Sky Resort boasts 5,850 acres of skiing and riding with over 4,350 vertical feet of terrain, and typically more than 400 inches of powder each season. The resort boasts 39 lifts and the Lone Peak Tram. The tram runs service to the summit, at 11,166 ft, gives access to some of the resort’s most extreme skiing, and provides spectacular 360° views including mountains from three different states and two National Parks. Check out Big Sky Ski Resort Map for a full view of the mountain and its trails.
